RSV pneumonia with or without bacterial co-infection among healthy children

Hsiao-Chi Lin et al.

Summary: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common cause of childhood pneumonia. Bacterial co-infections can affect the severity of the condition, especially in young children. The study found that children with bacterial co-infection had longer hospital stays, more frequent need for intensive care unit (ICU) care, and higher levels of C-reactive protein.

Summary: This study investigated the epidemiological and genetic characteristics of HMPV in pediatric patients in Hangzhou, China after the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed that HMPV is an important viral respiratory pathogen in children with ARTI, occurring mainly in children older than 6 years, and with a higher diagnosis rate of lower respiratory tract infections compared to upper respiratory tract infections.

Prediction of risk factors of bronchial mucus plugs in children with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia

Jiahui Zhang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the clinical, laboratory, radiological characteristics, and treatment of children with Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection, focusing on the risk factors for mucus plug formation. A risk factor scoring system was established based on the identified independent risk factors, such as PA levels, timing of corticosteroid use, CRP levels, and LDH levels. The study provides a basis for early identification and intervention of Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia with mucus plug formation in children.

Yifei Duan et al.

Summary: In west China, respiratory viruses influenza A and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) were found to be the most common among young children with acute respiratory tract infection, showing pronounced seasonality. During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, isolation measures led to a decline in the number of ARTI cases.
