Uncertainty aversion and farmers' innovative seed adoption: Evidence from a field experiment in rural China

Credit Constraint, Interlinked Insurance and Credit Contract and Farmers' Adoption of Innovative Seeds-Field Experiment of the Loess Plateau

Summary: The interlinked insurance and credit contract is a new model of agricultural insurance in China, but its development and farmers' demands for it are poorly understood. Based on a field experiment involving wheat farmers on the Loess Plateau in China, this study analyzes the inhibitory effect of credit constraint on farmers' adoption of innovative seeds and explores the heterogeneity of adoption behavior due to the availability of interlinked insurance and credit contract. The results show that credit constraint significantly hinders farmers' adoption of innovative seeds, while interlinked insurance and credit contracts effectively encourage adoption by dispersing natural risks and alleviating credit rationing. However, providing interlinked insurance and credit contract to farmers in rural areas with low education levels is not beneficial for enhancing adoption. Additionally, relatively poor farmers may underestimate the benefits of innovative seeds at the beginning of planting, resulting in delayed adoption behavior. This research provides a new perspective on promoting the spread of innovative technology in rural areas.

Does Internet use promote the adoption of agricultural technology? Evidence from 1 449 farm households in 14 Chinese provinces

Extreme weather events and farmer adaptation in Zeeland, the Netherlands: A European climate change case study from the Rhine delta
