Overexpression of cassava RSZ21b enhances drought tolerance in Arabidopsis

Yanhang Chen et al.

Summary: The study identified a cassava RSZ subfamily gene, MeRSZ21b, which is induced by drought and hypersensitive to abscisic acid (ABA) in Arabidopsis. Overexpression of MeRSZ21b in plants improved drought tolerance by modulating ABA-dependent signaling pathways. This research provides new insights into enhancing plant resistance to environmental stress through SR protein-coding genes.

Dual roles of the serine/arginine-rich splicing factor SR45a in promoting and interacting with nuclear cap-binding complex to modulate the salt-stress response in Arabidopsis

Ying Li et al.

Summary: Alternative splicing (AS) plays a critical role in plant response to environmental stresses. SR45a, as a component of the spliceosome, interacts with CBP20 to mediate salt stress signaling pathways and regulate AS and mRNA maturation of salt-tolerance genes. Mutations in SR45a and CBP20 lead to different salt-stress phenotypes, indicating a regulatory complex for plant salt stress response.

Identification of cassava alternative splicing-related genes and functional characterization of MeSCL30 involvement in drought stress

Xun Weng et al.

Summary: Alternative splicing is an important post-transcriptional regulation strategy in eukaryotes, which plays a crucial role in increasing proteome diversity and regulating mRNA levels. In plants, alternative splicing can enhance adaptation to external stress conditions. The study identified 365 genes encoding AS-related proteins in cassava, with 13 genes undergoing alternative splicing under diverse environmental stress conditions.

Overexpression of SCL30A from cassava (Manihot esculenta) negatively regulates salt tolerance in Arabidopsis

Qing Hu et al.

Summary: In response to drought and salt stress, the expression of MeSCL30A in cassava is significantly induced, and overexpressing MeSCL30A in Arabidopsis thaliana leads to earlier flowering. However, these overexpressing lines exhibit hypersensitivity to salt and drought stress, with effects on reactive oxygen species homeostasis and genes involved in ionic stress pathways. These findings provide insights for enhancing plant resistance to environmental stress.
