The Climatic Role of Interactive Leaf Phenology in the Vegetation-Atmosphere System of Radiative-Convective Equilibrium Storm-Resolving Simulations

Junhong Lee et al.

Summary: Storm-resolving simulations explore the climatic role of interactive leaf phenology and reveal that interactive leaves make the vegetation-atmosphere system more stable and resilient to drying, while albedo changes play a negligible role.

Characteristics of convective precipitation over tropical Africa in storm-resolving global simulations

Tobias Becker et al.

Summary: The representation of deep convection significantly impacts the characteristics of convective precipitation, with the addition of terms for moisture tendency improving various precipitation aspects. However, explicit deep convection leads to overestimated precipitation intensity and more extreme rain events. Further scale-aware parameterization is still necessary for accurate global numerical weather prediction.

Tropical Free-Tropospheric Humidity Differences and Their Effect on the Clear-Sky Radiation Budget in Global Storm-Resolving Models

Theresa Lang et al.

Summary: Reducing the model spread in free-tropospheric relative humidity and its response to warming is important for reducing the uncertainty in clear-sky climate sensitivity. The study finds that inter-model differences in tropical present-day RH across GSRMs are reduced compared to conventional atmospheric models, but still result in a spread of 1.2 Wm-2 in tropical mean clear-sky outgoing longwave radiation.
