Water quality indices and multivariate statistical analysis of urban groundwater in semi-arid Sokoto Basin, Northwestern Nigeria

Saadu Umar Wali et al.

Summary: Drinking water is limited in quantity and quality in fast-growing cities in developing countries. This study investigates groundwater quality in the semiarid Sokoto Basin, Nigeria. Results show that most sampling locations have good quality water, but there are some pollutants exceeding the reference guidelines. The study concludes that despite urbanization, groundwater quality hasn't deteriorated significantly.

Water quality assessment of alpine glacial blue water lakes and glacial-fed rivers

Mohsin Khan et al.

Summary: The study focuses on quantifying heavy metals, investigating physicochemical characteristics, apportioning contamination sources, assessing human health risks, and studying the connectivity between alpine glacial lakes and rivers. The findings show that lead, cadmium, nickel, chromium, iron, and manganese are the most common heavy metal contaminants in both lakes and river water. Other tested physicochemical characteristics are within the permissible limits set by the World Health Organization.
