Monitoring of phenological stage and yield estimation of sunflower plant using Sentinel-2 satellite images

Omer Gokberk Narin et al.

Summary: With the increasing world population and urbanization, agricultural lands are decreasing, making the monitoring of agricultural lands crucial for crop estimation. This study investigated the suitability of Sentinel-2 data for analyzing the growth stages and estimating the yield of sunflower plants. The results showed that the indices obtained on June 30, during the inflorescence emergence stage, had a coefficient of determination (R-2) higher than 0.67 and a Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) lower than 13 kg/da. Among the Vegetation Indices (VIs), NDVI provided the best forecast three months before the harvest of sunflower.

Integrated phenology and climate in rice yields prediction using machine learning methods

Yahui Guo et al.

Summary: Accurately predicting rice yields is crucial for food security, especially in countries where rice production plays a significant role in agriculture. This study shows that machine learning methods outperform traditional regression analysis in predicting rice yields. The integrated combination of phenology, climate during growing season, and geographical information is more effective for yield predictions.

Prediction of Maize Yield at the City Level in China Using Multi-Source Data

Xinxin Chen et al.

Summary: This study utilized four machine learning approaches to predict maize yield at the city-level in China, achieving the highest correlation coefficient values of 0.828, 0.806, 0.742, and 0.758 for cubist, RF, SVM, and Xgboost methods, respectively. Integrating climate, satellite data, and meteorological indices yielded the best prediction accuracy, with inputs from different growth stages being essential for maize yield estimation.

Use time series NDVI and EVI to develop dynamic crop growth metrics for yield modeling

Sadia Alam Shammi et al.

Summary: This study introduced new crop growth metrics based on NDVI and EVI, which were found to be effective for monitoring crop growth and modeling yield, particularly for soybean in Mississippi Delta. The models based on NDVI-derived VGM85 and EVI-derived VGMmax showed the best fit for linear yield modeling in this region.

An Assessment of Drought Stress in Tea Estates Using Optical and Thermal Remote Sensing

Animesh Chandra Das et al.

Summary: This research utilized remote sensing technique with the standardized precipitation index (SPI) to determine drought stress in tea estates, revealing a strong relationship between soil moisture and plant canopy moisture. The study found that drought frequency significantly impacted tea yield in the estates, suggesting that satellite remote sensing with SPI could be a valuable tool for measuring drought stress in tea estates.
