Decision Tree and Random Forest Classification Algorithms for Mangrove Forest Mapping in Sembilang National Park, Indonesia

Anang Dwi Purwanto et al.

Summary: Sembilang National Park in Indonesia, known for its rich mangrove areas, faces vulnerabilities due to community activities. This study examines the use of decision tree and random forest algorithms to classify and monitor the distribution of mangrove forests in the park. The results show that the random forest algorithm outperforms the decision tree algorithm, providing valuable insights for efficient monitoring and rehabilitation of mangrove forests in Indonesia.

Estimation of land surface temperature in response to land use/land cover transformation in Kolkata city and its suburban area, India

Souvik Biswas et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the land surface temperature in Kolkata city and its suburban area has been continuously increasing over the past 25 years, with rapid urban sprawling leading to massive land transformation, particularly the conversion from trees outside forests and agricultural land to built-up areas. The mean land surface temperature in the summer and winter seasons showed significant increases during 1995-2020, with LST positively correlated to NDBI and negatively correlated to NDVI and MNDWI.

Analysis of land-use change over five- and ten-year periods in Hamparan Perak, North Sumatra, Indonesia

Rahmawaty et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the land-use changes in Hamparan Perak and identifies the factors, pressures, impacts, and responses associated with these changes. The findings indicate that industrial and oil palm plantations have expanded, while mangrove forests and paddy fields have decreased, resulting in reduced biodiversity, damage to mangroves, and decreased rice production.

Delineation of the Development Boundary of the Central District of Zhengzhou, China

Jingeng Huo et al.

Summary: An urban development boundary is an effective means to guide urban development and restrain unplanned expansion of urban space. This study used land use data and modeling techniques to delineate the development boundary of the central urban area of Zhengzhou, taking into consideration agricultural and ecological perspectives. The results showed that the delineated boundary was in line with scientific concepts and contributed to the protection of land resources and ecological land, as well as promoting sustainable development.

Mangrove Forest Landcover Changes in Coastal Vietnam: A Case Study from 1973 to 2020 in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An Provinces

Huong Thi Thuy Nguyen et al.

Summary: Mangrove forests in Vietnam face threats from coastal development, especially in the vulnerable northern coast frequently hit by typhoons during the monsoon season. Aquaculture has been identified as the main reason for the loss of mangroves in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces, with restoration efforts showing some success. Further refinement of engineering techniques is needed to improve mangrove restoration outcomes in these provinces.

Thirty-two years of mangrove forest land cover change in Parita Bay, Panama

Yoisy Belen Castillo et al.

Summary: The study found that the mangrove area in Parita Bay, Panama increased by 4.7% over the past 32 years, with healthy vegetation indicated by a high NDVI value. However, in earlier decades, mangroves were converted to other land cover types, resulting in a decline in coverage.

Impacts of changes in mangrove ecosystems in the Ba and rewa deltas, Fiji using multi-temporal landsat data and social survey

Ram Avtar et al.

Summary: This study found issues with mangrove ecosystem variation and function loss in the Ba and Rewa deltas of Fiji due to human impacts. Local residents heavily rely on mangroves for food resources, and mangrove degradation has caused economic losses and CO2 emissions, highlighting the need for policy interventions to ensure sustainability.
