Delineation of groundwater potential zones using geospatial and MCDM approaches in urban areas of Anantapur District, AP, India

B. N. Anusha et al.

Summary: Delineating groundwater potential zones is crucial for the long-term management of groundwater resources. The study demonstrates the use of GIS and MCDM techniques, specifically the Analytical Hierarchy Process, to accurately delineate the nonlinear behavior of groundwater occurrence. The weighted overlay analysis, based on remote sensing technology, is extensively used for groundwater potential zoning. The results indicate that a significant portion of the study area has poor groundwater potential, suggesting limited and deteriorating groundwater resources.

Information Extraction and Prediction of Rocky Desertification Based on Remote Sensing Data

Jiaju Cao et al.

Summary: Rock desertification has become the third most serious ecological problem in western China. This study focused on Dafang County, Guizhou Province, using the decision tree and multiple linear regression models to analyze the impact and evolution characteristics of stone desertification. The results showed that the multiple linear regression model had higher accuracy in extracting stone desertification, and the distribution of stone desertification was mainly influenced by elevation and slope.

A quantitative study on the amount of water-retaining agent based on adhesive-modified red bed weathered soil

Cuiying Zhou et al.

Summary: Engineering activities can cause serious soil erosion issues in red bed areas. Red bed weathered soil can be improved with adhesives and water-retaining agents, but there is a lack of reliable quantitative basis for determining the amount of water-retaining agent. Quantitative studies were conducted to investigate the effects of water-retaining agents on soil quality, showing that increasing resin content can improve permeability, porosity, water retention, and promote plant root growth in red bed weathered soil modified by a fixed amount of adhesive.

Optimization of Rocky Desertification Classification Model Based on Vegetation Type and Seasonal Characteristic

Chunhua Qian et al.

Summary: By using machine-learning algorithms and different models, a high-precision rocky desertification extraction model has been established, with SVM performing the best. Combining vegetation types and seasonal phases can improve the model accuracy to 91.1%. The spatial distribution of rocky desertification in Guizhou shows a trend of continuous increase from 2001 to 2019.

Extracting Information on Rocky Desertification from Satellite Images: A Comparative Study

Junwei Pu et al.

Summary: Rocky desertification is a major challenge for regional sustainable development in karst terrains worldwide. Remotely sensed data, particularly from the Sentinel-2B satellite image, can provide important information for mapping rocky desertification. The ERT algorithm shows the best classification results for rocky desertification, with the combination of Sentinel-2B images and ERT method offering an effective and efficient approach for information extraction.

Modeling of spatially distributed infiltration in the Iraqi Western Desert

Ahmed Shahadha Muneer et al.

Summary: This study developed a mathematical model using artificial neural networks combined with GIS, RS, and field infiltration measurements to determine spatially distributed infiltration. The estimated infiltration rate values range from 56 to 215 mm/h in the dry season and from 12 to 27 mm/h in the wet season. The results show a good agreement between estimated and measured infiltration, indicating the effectiveness of the comparative method in detecting and mapping soil infiltration.
