Summary: This study investigated the physiological strain experienced by workers employed in motor-manual timber harvesting performed in winter and summer, and evaluated the applicability of heart rate indices in estimating energy expenditure. The results showed significantly higher physiological workload and energy expenditure during winter. The conclusion suggests that season significantly affects the physiological workload in logging operations and emphasizes the importance of proper organization of work and selection of workers to limit workload during winter activity.
