Value of Renal Vascular Doppler Sonography in Cardiorenal Syndrome Type 1

Beytullah Cakal et al.

Summary: This study found that patients with CRS type 1 had higher renal vascular Doppler parameters upon admission. A high arterial resistive index on admission could predict improvements in creatinine levels with diuretic therapy. Renal Doppler parameters may offer guidance for the diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in decongestive therapy for decompensated heart failure patients.

The Effect of Decongestion on Intrarenal Venous Flow Patterns in Patients With Acute Heart Failure

Summary: This study found that patients with acute HF showed improvement in intrarenal venous flow patterns after decongestive treatment, with significant increases in venous impedance index and venous discontinuity index, while there was no effect on arterial flow patterns.

The role of the renal resistance index in patients with heart failure with re duce d or preserved ejection fraction

Summary: This study investigated the determining factors of the RRI in both HFpEF and HFrEF patients and found that while the predictors of RRI differed between the two groups, RRI consistently predicted outcomes in both HFpEF and HFrEF patients. Additionally, there was an association between RRI and the composite outcome in both HFpEF and HFrEF without interaction.

Critical care outcomes in patients with pre-existing pulmonary hypertension: insights from the ASPIRE registry

Kris Bauchmuller et al.

Summary: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a life-shortening condition with episodes of decompensation caused by factors like disease progression, arrhythmias, and sepsis. A retrospective study on critical care management of PH patients admitted to a national referral center between 2000-2017 revealed that hospital survival rates varied among patients admitted for medical, surgical, or obstetric reasons. Predictors of hospital mortality included APACHE II score, age, lactate levels, oxygen saturation, platelet count, and sodium levels. An exploratory risk score OPALS showed potential for identifying medical patients at risk of hospital mortality.
