Male crayfish (Faxonius obscurus, Decapoda: Cambaridae) claws are longer and stronger yet comparable in shape during the reproductive season

Zackary A. Graham et al.

Summary: Animal weapons are diverse and often exaggerated structures associated with sexual selection and male-male combat. However, our understanding of these structures is limited to studies focusing on their size, neglecting other components such as shape and performance. This study investigates the differences in weapon size, shape, and performance between reproductive and non-reproductive adult male Allegheny crayfish, revealing an unexplored pattern of seasonal weapon plasticity.

The development of animal personality across ontogeny: a cross-species review

Doreen Cabrera et al.

Summary: Animal personality is defined as consistent individual behavior over time and across contexts, but may vary across different developmental stages. Studies primarily focusing on behavior within a single life stage may not capture the full picture of personality development over time. Further research on personality across major developmental periods is needed to enhance our understanding of the evolution and maintenance of animal personality.
