Gel-Derived Amorphous Bismuth-Nickel Alloy Promotes Electrocatalytic Nitrogen Fixation via Optimizing Nitrogen Adsorption and Activation

Zhiwei Fang et al.

Summary: This study developed a 3D amorphous BiNi alloy that significantly enhances the NRR efficiency compared to crystalline and metal counterparts. Ni alloying improves the chemisorption of nitrogen, resulting in higher NH3 production rate and Faradaic efficiency. The interconnected porous scaffold in the 3D alloy enables enhanced electron transfer and increased electrochemical surface area, making it efficient and stable for potential practical applications.

Tunable eg Orbital Occupancy in Heusler Compounds for Oxygen Evolution Reaction**

Mingquan Yu et al.

Summary: Heusler compounds show potential as a new class of OER electrocatalysts due to their mechanical robustness, metallic conductivity, and tunability in electronic structure. The reactivity of Co sites in these compounds is influenced by the e(g) orbital filling, with higher catalytic activity observed as the filling approaches unity. Further research is needed to fully understand and harness the catalytic performance of Heusler compounds through manipulation of spin orbitals.

Colloidal Ni2P Nanocrystals Encapsulated in Heteroatom-Doped Graphene Nanosheets: A Synergy of 0D@2D Heterostructure Toward Overall Water Splitting

Umesh P. Suryawanshi et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the synthesis of zero-dimensional colloidal Ni2P NCs encapsulated in two-dimensional N- and S-doped graphene nanosheets to form a heterostructure for efficient overall water splitting. The interaction between surface functionalities of Ni2P NCs and defective NSG enhances specific surface area and active site exposure, leading to high catalytic activity towards HER and OER. Density functional theory calculations show that the dual interaction of N and S dopants with Ni2P benefits optimized water and hydrogen free energy adsorption, resulting in a low voltage requirement for achieving high current density in the two-electrode alkaline electrolyzer.

Electrocatalytic Ethanol Oxidation on Cobalt-Bismuth Nanoparticle-Decorated Reduced Graphene Oxide (Co-Bi@rGO): Reaction Pathway Investigation toward Direct Ethanol Fuel Cells

Ajay Munde et al.

Summary: The study presents a surface modification approach for the fabrication of noble metal-free cobalt-bismuth bimetallic electrocatalysts for enhanced ethanol oxidation reaction. The synthesized Co-Bi@rGO electrocatalysts exhibit high activity, cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and durability, showing superior performance compared to individual counterparts. The synergistic interactions of rGO, Co, and Bi in the electrocatalysts contribute to their enhanced performance in the ethanol oxidation reaction.

Strategic Doping Approach of the Fe-BiOI Microstructure: An Improved Photodegradation Efficiency of Tetracycline

Neetu Talreja et al.

Summary: The study successfully synthesized Fe-BiOI microstructures by strategically doping Fe metal ions into a BiOI microstructure using in situ and ex situ processes. It was found that in situ Fe-BiOI exhibited better performance compared to ex situ Fe-BiOI, and modulation of the distribution of metal ions within the material can alter the photocatalytic degradation efficiency.
