An Examination of the Latent Constructs in Risk Tools for Individuals Who Sexually Offend: Applying Multidimensional Item Response Theory to the Static-2002R

Sebastien Brouillette-Alarie et al.

Summary: Multidimensional item response theory (MIRT) was used to examine the construct validity of the Static-2002R scale for assessing reoffending among adult men who sexually offended. The study confirmed the factor structure identified in earlier research, with three factors related to persistence/paraphilia, general criminality, and youthful stranger aggression. The MIRT analyses provided detailed item-level data on discrimination and difficulty, supporting the construct validity of the scale. The integration of dimensional scores is recommended to enhance the stability and advantages of the scale.

ECG interpretation skill acquisition: A review of learning, teaching and assessment

C. J. Breen et al.

Summary: The recording and interpretation of 12 lead electrocardiograms (ECG) are essential medical procedures used for diagnosis, risk stratification, and assessment of therapy response. However, studies have shown deficiencies in ECG interpretation skills among health professionals, leading to errors and inappropriate management. The lack of standardized teaching methods and overreliance on computer-assisted interpretation also contribute to the variability in interpretation competence. It is important to establish standardized ECG reporting methods and improve teaching strategies to enhance the accuracy of ECG interpretation among healthcare professionals.

Assessments of Physicians' Electrocardiogram Interpretation Skill: A Systematic Review

David A. Cook et al.

Summary: The study identified features of instruments, test procedures, study design, and validity evidence in published studies of electrocardiogram (ECG) skill assessments. Results showed that ECG interpretation skill assessments consist of idiosyncratic instruments with limited interpretability. Best practices were suggested to improve the validity of assessments.

Identifying client characteristics to predict homecare use more accurately: a Delphi-study involving nurses and homecare purchasing specialists

Anne O. E. van den Bulck et al.

Summary: By involving the expertise of district nurses and health insurers, this study identified more holistic predictors, such as mental functioning and social network, that could improve the prediction of homecare use in case-mix classification. However, the challenge remains in operationalizing these new characteristics and gaining stakeholder support.
