A retrospective analysis of emerging rabies: a neglected tropical disease in Sarawak, Malaysia

Most patients did not seek medical attention after being bitten by dogs, leading to a lack of effective post-exposure prophylaxis. Rabies: Presentation, case management and therapy

Summary: Several Lyssaviruses, including the dog variant, can cause rabies and rabies-like syndromes, and currently there are no proven effective treatments for symptomatic rabies patients. The risk of infection, especially from deep bites, is higher compared to scratches. Favipiravir can reduce rabies replication in neuronal cells, and the endocannabinoid system may serve as a novel neuroprotective agent against rabies virus-induced damage.

Feasibility and Effectiveness Studies with Oral Vaccination of Free-Roaming Dogs against Rabies in Thailand

Risk Factors and Protective Immunity Against Rabies in Unvaccinated Butchers Working at Dog Slaughterhouses in Northern Vietnam

Summary: In Vietnam, the majority of professional dog butchers do not have rabies neutralizing antibodies, but some individuals without a history of rabies vaccination do. Those with over 5 years of experience as a dog butcher have a higher likelihood of having neutralizing antibodies. The presence of neutralizing antibodies in vaccinated butchers is characterized by higher titers and longer persistence compared to other professionals, possibly due to repeated exposure to low levels of rabies virus antigens during dog slaughtering.

Burden of illness of dog-mediated rabies in India: A systematic review

Summary: This systematic review aims to measure the burden of illness of dog bites and dog-mediated rabies in India. The study found that stray dogs were the main biting animals, and bites were more common in males, aged 10-40, with low socio-economic status and working in fields. The use of intradermal route of vaccination and equine rabies immunoglobulins has been reported to save cost and resources.

The rabies distribution pattern on dogs using average nearest neighbor analysis approach in the Karangasem District, Bali, Indonesia, in 2019
