Applying evidence to practice by increasing intensity of intervention for children with severe speech sound disorder: a quality improvement project

Summary: Speech sound disorder (SSD) can have a significant impact on children's communication, relationships, school progress, and overall well-being. Intensive intervention, with higher dose and frequency, has been found to be more effective. This quality improvement project aimed to increase the intensity of intervention for children with severe SSD, resulting in improved outcomes in speech measures and parent ratings of intelligibility.

Making the case for the collection of a minimal dataset for children with speech sound disorder

However, significant inconsistencies were found in the pre- and post-intervention data and variables collected, making it difficult to compare the effectiveness of different interventions. There is a need for more consistent and contemporaneous data collection for children with SSD to facilitate future investigations.
