Educational Interventions to Promote Cervical Cancer Screening among Rural Populations: A Systematic Review

Mengyue Zhang et al.

Summary: The urban-rural gap in cervical cancer screening uptake is a significant public health consideration, and educational interventions have been found to be effective in promoting cervical cancer screening among females in rural areas. This review identifies the characteristics of educational interventions used in rural populations and evaluates their effects on cervical cancer screening-related outcomes. The findings suggest that theory-driven, community-involved, group-based, and healthcare professional-led approaches should be prioritized in the application of educational interventions in rural populations. However, the studies evaluated in this review only assessed the short-term effects of these interventions, and further research is needed to understand the long-term influences on cervical cancer screening behavior in rural areas.

The effect of educational intervention based on the health belief model on knowledge, attitude, and function of women about Pap smear test at Iranian health centers: A randomized controlled clinical trial

Elahe Samami et al.

Summary: Educational intervention using the health belief model is effective in improving knowledge, attitude, and behavior of women regarding Pap tests, especially in terms of the health belief model structures, with significantly increased average scores after training. There was no significant difference between the groups at baseline, but a significant difference was observed after training in terms of undergoing Pap smear tests, showing the impact of the intervention on changing behaviors.
