Volumetric Analysis of the Jaws in Skeletal Class I and III Patients with Different Facial Divergence Using CBCT Imaging

Rama Yasser Alhawasli et al.

Summary: The main objective of this study was to evaluate the possible volumetric differences in the maxilla or mandible between hyperdivergent skeletal Class III (CIII), normodivergent skeletal CIII, hypodivergent skeletal CIII, and normodivergent skeletal Class I (CI) patients using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. The results showed no significant differences in maxillary volume or maxillary/mandibular ratio among the four groups. However, there was a significant difference in mandibular volume between hypodivergent skeletal CIII and hyperdivergent skeletal CIII. Some correlations were found between the volumetric measurements and 2D variables, especially in posterior facial height and facial depth.

Three-dimensional mandibular characteristics in skeletal malocclusion A cross-sectional study

Carolin Olbrisch et al.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the possible correlation between skeletal malocclusions, gender, and mandibular characteristics in adults. The results showed that sagittal and vertical skeletal patterns significantly affected the mandible, while there was no correlation between transverse skeletal asymmetry and mandibular characteristics. Gender correlated with mandibular characteristics independently from the skeletal pattern.

Mandibular ramus height and condyle distance asymmetries in individuals with different facial growth patterns: a cone-beam computed tomography study

Christian Reis Lemes et al.

Summary: The study aimed to quantify mandibular ramus height and condylar distances asymmetry indexes in adult patients with different vertical facial growth patterns using Cone Beam computed tomography (CBCT). The results showed significantly lower mandibular ramus height in individuals with a hyperdivergent skeletal pattern, but no statistically significant differences in condylar and intercondylar distances among different facial groups. Asymmetry indexes for mandibular ramus height and condylar distance were similar regardless of the skeletal patterns.

Classification and Morphological Analysis of the Hard Palate in Cone-Beam Computed Tomography Scans: A Retrospective Study

Murilo Miranda-Viana et al.

Summary: This study aimed to classify the morphological characteristics of the hard palate and evaluate their relationship with different skeletal patterns using CBCT scans. The depth and inclination of the hard palate were found to be significantly associated with skeletal patterns, while the presence of an S-shaped projection varied among different skeletal patterns.

Do the dimensions of the hard palate have a relationship with the volumes of the upper airways and maxillary sinuses? A CBCT study

Murilo Miranda-Viana et al.

Summary: The dimensions of the hard palate are influenced by sex and facial type, but not by skeletal malocclusion or breathing pattern. There is an association between the width and height of the hard palate with the volumes of the upper airways and maxillary sinuses.
