Nanotransferrin-Based Programmable Catalysis Mediates Three-Pronged Induction of Oxidative Stress to Enhance Cancer Immunotherapy

Shuang Bai et al.

Summary: The genetically engineered transferrin-expressing cell membrane nanovesicle encapsulated IR820-dihydroartemisinin nanomedicine (Tf@IR820-DHA) scenario efficiently delivered Fe(III) and IR820-DHA nanoparticles to target tumor locations and induce oxidative stress-associated ICD. This triple stimuli-activated strategy caused high levels of targeted ICD, increasing IFN-gamma-secreting T cell proportions and enhancing a-PD-L1-mediated ICB against primary and distant tumors, representing a promising approach for cancer nanoimmunotherapy.

Inhalable MOF-Derived Nanoparticles for Sonodynamic Therapy of Bacterial Pneumonia

Xueting Pan et al.

Summary: Clinical therapy of multidrug resistant (MDR) bacteria-induced deep-tissue infections like pneumonia is challenging. This study developed ZIF-8-derived carbon@TiO2 nanoparticles (ZTNs) as inhalable sonosensitizers for the treatment of bacterial pneumonia. The ZTNs showed excellent efficacy in killing Gram-negative MDR bacteria in vitro upon ultrasound irradiation. In animal models, the ZTNs effectively eliminated bacteria in the lungs and even achieved 100% survival rate in severely immunodeficient mice with lethal bacterial pneumonia, without obvious toxicity.
