Flexible Transient Bioelectronic System Enables Multifunctional Active-Controlled Drug Delivery

Shuaiyin Liu et al.

Summary: A biodegradable multifunctional active-controlled drug delivery system (ADDS) is reported, which can be implanted in various tissues and meets the individualized needs of patients. The system allows rapid drug release from reservoirs and long-term drug delivery through the deactivation of magnesium (Mg). Multiple chambers are designed with tandem Mg valves and aligned in the z-axis direction to achieve pulsatile or sequential drug delivery. The biodegradability of the entire system minimizes potential side effects.

Graphdiyne oxide elicits a minor foreign-body response and generates quantum dots due to fast degradation

Lizhen Wang et al.

Summary: Graphdiyne (GDY) is a novel 2D carbon allotrope with excellent properties, attracting attention in various fields. Studies have explored its biomedical applications, but few have focused on its biocompatibility and potential environmental hazards. This study compared the cytotoxicity and biocompatibility of graphdiyne oxide (GDYO) and graphene oxide (GO), and found that GDYO had low biotoxicity in vitro and moderate biocompatibility in vivo. Highly oxidized products and graphdiyne quantum dots (GDQDs) were observed in peritoneal cells. GDYO showed better biocompatibility and its sheet size could easily be diminished through oxidative degradation, making it a promising candidate in biomedicine.

Hybrid Ag nanoparticles/polyoxometalate-polydopamine nano-flowers loaded chitosan/gelatin hydrogel scaffolds with synergistic photothermal/chemodynamic/Ag+ anti-bacterial action for accelerated wound healing

Kunpeng Zhou et al.

Summary: Bacterial infections significantly affect wound healing process, and developing new bactericides and therapeutic strategies is crucial. In this study, a three-in-one bactericidal nanocomposite was developed, which demonstrated photo-thermal therapy (PTT) and chemodynamic therapy (CDT) to synergistically combat bacterial infections and accelerate wound healing. Additionally, a multifunctional wound dressing was obtained by embedding the nanocomposite into a biocomposite hydrogel, which showed excellent biocompatibility and hydro-absorptivity for enhanced wound healing in vivo.
