Ferroelectric CsGeI3 Single Crystals with a Perovskite Structure Grown from Aqueous Solution

Rui Chen et al.

Summary: This study developed a technique to synthesize millimeter-sized CsGeI3 single crystals using an aqueous solution, and examined their ferroelectric and photoelectric properties compared to theoretical predictions. These findings not only provide a new route for germanium-based perovskite single crystal synthesis, but also introduce potential applications in ferroelectric photovoltaics.

High-Pressure Behavior of ?-Phase of Formamidinium Lead Iodide by Optical Spectroscopies

Valentina Carpenella et al.

Summary: The exceptional photovoltaic properties of hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites have attracted increasing interest in recent decades. FAPbI3 is a type of perovskite that shows two structural phases: the high temperature perovskite a-phase and the much less photoactive nonperovskite 6-phase. Recent studies have found that devices with increased stability and efficiency can be designed by mixing a- and 6-phases. This paper presents a study on the effects of compression on the lattice and optoelectronic response of 6-FAPbI3, using high-pressure Raman and photoluminescence techniques.

Static and Dynamic Disorder in Formamidinium Lead Bromide Single Crystals

Guy Reuveni et al.

Summary: We demonstrate that formamidinium-based crystals differ from methyl ammonium-based halide perovskite crystals due to the presence of intrinsic local static disorder in their inorganic sublattice, despite having a well-defined average crystal structure. Our study combines terahertz-range Raman scattering, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and first-principles calculations to investigate the temperature-dependent dynamics of the inorganic sublattice in the range of 10-300 K. The temperature evolution of the Raman spectra reveals that low-temperature, local static disorder significantly influences the crystal structural dynamics and phase transitions at higher temperatures.

A-site cation effect on optical phonon modes and thermal stability in lead-based perovskite bromide single crystals using Raman spectroscopy

Furqanul Hassan Naqvi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the thermal stability, photo physical properties, and optical phonon modes of lead bromide perovskites using various spectroscopic techniques. The results show that CsPbBr3 is more stable than two hybrid perovskites, and the substitution of cations leads to different vibrational mode differences.

The Ferroelectric-Ferroelastic Debate about Metal Halide Perovskites

Francesco Ambrosio et al.

Summary: Metal halide perovskites (MHPs) are solution-processed materials that have revolutionized photovoltaics with their exceptional photoconversion efficiencies. The debate surrounding the existence of ferroelectricity in MHPs and its impact on photovoltaic activity is still ongoing. In this review, we critically analyze recent experimental and theoretical results and propose an alternative interpretation based on ferroelasticity instead of ferroelectricity. We also emphasize that the ferroic behavior in MHPs would not significantly affect the physics of photogenerated charge carriers at room temperature or higher due to competing effects.

Degenerate Lattice-Instability-Driven Amorphization under Compression in Metal Halide Perovskite CsPbI3

Seho Yi et al.

Summary: In this study, the pressure-induced amorphization process of CsPbI3 was investigated using first-principles density functional theory (DFT) and ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) calculations. The results showed that the amorphous-like structures became more stable than the orthorhombic phase above 6.66 GPa. Furthermore, an imaginary flat band appeared in the phonon dispersion at 10 GPa, leading to lattice instabilities and amorphization.

Deciphering the Nature of Temperature-Induced Phases of MAPbBr3 Ab Initio Molecular

Sayan Maity et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the temperature-induced phases of methylammonium lead bromide using ab initio molecular dynamics simulations. We found that the low-temperature phase is not ferroelectric and the distortions in this phase originate from octahedral scissoring modes. However, these distortions disappear at room temperature. The predicted timescales of methylammonium (MA) motion matched well with experimental estimates, indicating dynamic disordering of the molecular dipoles at room temperature. We also identified the key modes of the inorganic and organic sublattices that are coupled through hydrogen bonding, which showed a strong connection between the organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites and the lifetimes of the hydrogen bonds.
