Climate change multi-model projections in CMIP6 scenarios in Central Hokkaido, Japan

Shilei Peng et al.

Summary: Simulation of future climate changes in the Ishikari River basin in Hokkaido, Japan was conducted using global climate models. The selected models showed a significant correlation with temperature measurements but did not accurately represent precipitation features. The findings suggest that the northern part of the basin is more likely to become hotter with heavier precipitation in the future.

Representation of precipitation and top-of-atmosphere radiation in a multi-model convection-permitting ensemble for the Lake Victoria Basin (East-Africa)

Nicole P. M. van Lipzig et al.

Summary: The CORDEX Flagship Pilot Study ELVIC aims to investigate the evolution of extreme weather events in the Lake Victoria basin and provide improved information for the climate impact community. The study finds that convection-permitting scale simulations show substantial improvements in the representation of moist convective systems, especially in metrics related to deep convection. These models have the potential to be valuable tools for studying future extreme precipitation events in the region.

The EC-Earth3 Earth system model for the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project 6

Ralf Doscher et al.

Summary: EC-Earth3 is a Earth system model contributing to CMIP6, featuring a flexible coupling framework, various model configurations, ensuring simulations comparability across different HPC systems, and demonstrating improved physical and dynamic features. It represents a clear step forward for European community ESM with improved physical performance compared to CMIP5 version.

Projected Changes in Climate Extremes Using CMIP6 Simulations Over SREX Regions

Mansour Almazroui et al.

Summary: The study reveals that under different socioeconomic scenarios, intensity and frequency of extreme temperature and precipitation events over land are projected to increase. The intensity of the hottest days in extratropical regions is projected to increase more than in the tropics, while the frequency of extremely hot days is projected to increase more in tropical regions.

Do CMIP6 Climate Models Simulate Global or Regional Compound Events Skillfully?

Nina N. Ridder et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the performance of CMIP6 models in capturing bivariate compound events and found that some models performed well in North America, Europe, and Eurasia, but less so in Australia. This discrepancy may be attributed to challenges in simulating cyclones, convection, and convective systems.

Future intensification of precipitation and wind gust associated thunderstorms over Lake Victoria

Jonas Van de Walle et al.

Summary: The study suggests that future decreases in both mean precipitation and wind gusts over Lake Victoria are likely due to a weaker mean mesoscale circulation and reduced wind shear. However, an intensification of extremes is projected for both over-lake precipitation and wind gusts.

Climate model projections from the Scenario Model Intercomparison Project (ScenarioMIP) of CMIP6

Claudia Tebaldi et al.

Summary: The Scenario Model Intercomparison Project (ScenarioMIP) presents a range of outcomes regarding global climate projections, focusing on geophysical analysis. By comparing CMIP6 projections with CMIP5 results, it is found that there are more variations in future temperature changes than previously thought.
