Structural and theoretical insights towards the understanding of the effect on the conformation of ligand by complexation process

Summary: The ligand and palladium complex were synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Intermolecular interactions stabilizing the crystal packing in both compounds were quantified using Hirshfeld surface analysis. DFT calculations were employed to optimize the geometric structures and calculate the electronic properties. The electronic structure and UV-Vis spectrum of the ligand and complex were interpreted using DFT and TD-DFT calculations. NBO analysis was used to study the hyperconjugation interactions. QTAIM was used to calculate intramolecular interaction energies associated with different topologies and reveal the type and nature of non-covalent interactions. The structural and theoretical analysis revealed changes in the ligand properties due to complexation.

Additionally, the decrease in transmittance and the shift of UV-Vis absorption spectra to higher wavelengths indicated the importance of NH4I for light shielding devices.
