Adherence to dietary guide for elderly adults and health risks of older adults in ethnic minority areas in China: a cross-sectional study

Tingyu Mai et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the association between adherence to dietary guidelines and health risks in an elderly population in an ethnic minority region. The findings showed that the adherence to dietary guidelines for this population was low and there was no significant association between adherence and clinical indicators or health outcomes. Further study is needed to understand the applicability and expected health benefits of dietary guidelines in ethnic minority areas.

The Association of Weight Loss, Weight Status, and Abdominal Obesity with All-Cause Mortality in Older Adults

Tagrid Abdullah Alharbi et al.

Summary: This study examined the association between weight loss, weight status, abdominal obesity, and 17-year mortality risk in community-dwelling older adults. Abdominal obesity was strongly associated with increased mortality risk, while being overweight appeared to be protective against mortality. Modest self-reported weight loss was not associated with all-cause mortality, but men reporting recent weight loss of more than 3 kg may be at increased risk. The findings support the use of waist circumference as a predictor of mortality risk in older adults.

Prevalence of Hyperuricemia Among Chinese Adults: Findings From Two Nationally Representative Cross-Sectional Surveys in 2015-16 and 2018-19

Mei Zhang et al.

Summary: The prevalence of hyperuricemia among Chinese adults in 2018-19 was 14.0%, with significant escalation observed between 2015-16 and 2018-19. Hyperuricemia was more common in men, but the prevalence also increased in women. Risk factors for hyperuricemia included urban culture, geographic region, ethnic descent, education level, alcohol consumption, dietary habits, physical activity, obesity, and certain chronic diseases.

The Relationship between Alcohol Consumption and Gout: A Mendelian Randomization Study

Ali Alamdar Shah Syed et al.

Summary: The study suggests that increased alcohol consumption does not play a causal role in the development of gout, while genetic risk of gout is significantly associated with drinks consumed per week. Furthermore, there were no significant differences in serum uric acid levels in both alcohol-consuming and alcohol-abstaining subgroups.

Real-world treatment of gout and asymptomatic hyperuricemia: A cross-sectional study of Japanese health insurance claims data

Ruriko Koto et al.

Summary: While the prevalence of hyperuricemia is similar in Japan and worldwide, gout is relatively rare in Japan. Gout and asymptomatic hyperuricemia are often treated with low-dose urate-lowering therapy (ULT), but many patients fail to achieve target serum uric acid levels, suggesting suboptimal gout management in Japan. Patients would benefit from a stricter focus on a treat-to-target approach for gout management.

Possible burden of hyperuricaemia on mortality in a community-based population: a large-scale cohort study

Yoichiro Otaki et al.

Summary: Hyperuricaemia is associated with increased risk of premature death, especially in men, smokers, and individuals with renal insufficiency. This study found that hyperuricaemia independently contributes to both all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, with higher population attributable fractions observed in certain subgroups.
