N, S co-doped branched carbon nanotubes with hierarchical porous structure and electron/ion transfer pathways for supercapacitors and lithium-ion batteries

Tingting Zhang et al.

Summary: Rational design of carbonaceous-based electrodes with specific pore structure and surface modification is crucial for high performance energy storage. In this study, a N, S co-doped porous carbon nanotubes with hierarchically hollowed and trunk-branched structure was fabricated. The resulting branched carbon nanotubes showed excellent capacitance and cyclic stability in supercapacitors as well as high specific capacity and rate capability in lithium-ion batteries.

Unraveling the amine oxidative coupling activity of hierarchical porous Fe-N4-O1 single-atom catalysts: oxygen atom-mediated dual reaction pathway

Hongwei He et al.

Summary: Heteroatom doping is an effective strategy for modulating the electronic structure and intrinsic activity of catalysts. In this study, a controllable self-assembly strategy was used to prepare atomically dispersed Fe-N-4-O-1 anchored N-doped porous carbon, which exhibited superior catalytic activity compared to Fe-N-4 sites. The oxygen atoms on Fe-N-4-O-1 sites were found to modulate the adsorption free energy of benzylamine and directly participate in the oxidation reaction, thus promoting the oxidative coupling process.

Graphene oxide aerogel 'ink' at room temperature, and ordered structures by freeze casting

Chunhui Wang et al.

Summary: A simple 'drop-by-drop' deposition method was invented to make graphene oxide hydrogels at room temperature, allowing for efficient control over the hydrogel shape and size without the need for heating or high pressure. This method enables the formation of stable hydrogels within a short period of time, which can be readily made into forms such as films, fibers, and aerogels.

Centrifugal Force Regularized Laponite@Graphene Hybrid Membranes with Ordered Interlayer Mass Transfer Channels and High Structural Stability for High-Rate Supercapacitors

Xianqiang Peng et al.

Summary: The development of graphene-based membrane electrodes with high electron and charge transfer capability can meet the increasing requirement for high-rate energy storage devices. A novel spin regularization strategy was demonstrated to prepare regularized graphene oxide (GO) membranes with uniform interlayer spacing for high-performance electrodes. The membranes with ordered and stable laminar structures revealed high mechanical strength and water stability, exhibiting high gravimetric capacitance, rate capability, and robust cyclic stability.
