Determination of the elastic constants of thermally modified beech by ultrasound and static tests coupled with 3D digital image correlation

Jose Luis Gomez-Royuela et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively characterized European beech subjected to three different intensities of heat treatments, revealing that the heat treatment influenced the elastic behavior of the material with non-uniform trends among the elastic components.

Bacterial degradation of nine wooden foundation piles from Gothenburg historic city center and correlation to wood quality, environment, and time in service

Charlotte G. Bjordal et al.

Summary: The study examined nine wooden foundation piles supporting historic buildings in the old town of Gothenburg, Sweden, for fungal and bacterial degradation. It was found that erosion bacteria mainly caused degradation, and the degree of decay was closely related to the diameter of the pile and time in ground, with no specific environmental parameters from soil and pore water analyses correlating to the observed decay rates.
