The influence of Salvia cadmica Boiss. extracts on the M1/M2 polarization of macrophages primed with Helicobacter pylori lipopolysaccharide in conjunction with NF-kappa B activation, production of cytokines, phagocytic activity and total DNA methylation

Weronika Gonciarz et al.

Summary: Salvia cadmica extracts have immunomodulating activity and can control the activity of macrophages stimulated by Hp LPS. These extracts decrease macrophage activation and cytokine secretion induced by Hp LPS, while increasing the phagocytic capacity of macrophages and enhancing their ability to engulf Hp.

Salvia cadmica extracts rich in polyphenols neutralize a deleterious effects of oxidative stress driven by Helicobacter pylori lipopolysaccharide in cell cultures of gastric epithelial cells or fibroblasts

Weronika Gonciarz et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of Salvia cadmica Boiss. extracts against clarithromycin and/or metronidazole resistant Helicobacter pylori strains, as well as to determine their effects on oxidative stress and cell apoptosis. Results showed that the extracts effectively inhibited the growth of H. pylori, alleviated oxidative stress, and reduced cell apoptosis.

Ameliorated Stomach Specific Floating Microspheres for Emerging Health Pathologies Using Polymeric Konjac Glucomannan-Based Domperidone

Jamal Moideen Muthu Mohamed et al.

Summary: The goal of this study was to develop stomach-specific floating microspheres (SSFMs) using polymeric konjac glucomannan, Kollidon VA 64, and glutaraldehyde to enhance the in vivo bioavailability of domperidone. The prepared SSFMs exhibited good drug release and physical stability, and demonstrated a prolonged gastric residence time compared to intravenous treatment. The study highlights the potential of SSFMs as a delivery system for enhancing drug absorption and therapeutic efficacy.

The Activation and Regulation of β2 Integrins in Phagocytes and Phagocytosis

Hao Sun et al.

Summary: Phagocytes, such as neutrophils and macrophages, play a crucial role in protecting the body by removing foreign particles and dead cells. The activation of beta 2 integrins is essential for the recruitment and phagocytic function of these cells, but aberrant activation may exacerbate autoimmune diseases and tumor metastasis. Targeting beta 2 integrins to regulate phagocyte activities could benefit host defense functions with minimal side effects.

Summary: The study introduced a smart nanoparticle platform composed of stimuli-responsive copolymers successfully synthesized through ring-opening polymerization and reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization, showing excellent pH-sensitive behavior. Additionally, doxorubicin-loaded nanoparticles were effective against cancer cells, however, their cytotoxicity depended on the composition of the nanocarrier.

Interference of LPS H. pylori with IL-33-Driven Regeneration of Caviae porcellus Primary Gastric Epithelial Cells and Fibroblasts

Weronika Gonciarz et al.

Summary: The study revealed that LPS from Hp bacteria can impact the regeneration of gastric barrier initiated by IL-33, leading to inhibition of cell migration and collagen I production in the presence of LPS Hp. This may be due to increased oxidative stress and apoptosis, as well as modulation of signaling pathways.

Antibiotic Resistance Prevalence and Trends in Patients Infected with Helicobacter pylori in the Period 2013-2020: Results of the European Registry on H. pylori Management (Hp-EuReg)

Luis Bujanda et al.

Summary: The study found that culture and antimicrobial susceptibility testing for Helicobacter pylori are rarely performed (<10%) in Europe. In naive patients, Helicobacter pylori resistance to clarithromycin remained above 15% throughout the period 2013-2020 and resistance to levofloxacin, as well as dual or triple resistances, were high. A progressive decrease in metronidazole resistance was observed.
