Amphiphilic halloysite nanotube enclosing molybdenum oxide as nanoreactor for efficient desulfurization of model fuels

Junzhen Guo et al.

Summary: In this study, an amphiphilic Mo/HNT/S nanoreactor was developed by immobilizing MoOx on the internal surface of halloysite nanotubes (HNT) and modifying the external surface with organosilanes. The catalyst exhibited high activity for oxidative desulfurization and showed improved stability over multiple cycles. The amphiphilic nature of the nanoreactor allowed for enhanced dispersion in the oil phase and formation of a concentrated microenvironment for the reactants and reactive oxygen species. This catalytic system eliminates the need for solvent extraction in the desulfurization process, making it a promising candidate for large-scale industrial applications.

Sulfur types distribution and the fast thermal-cracking behaviors of sulfur-containing compounds in Buton oil sand bitumen

Junhui Hao et al.

Summary: The study investigated the distribution of various types of sulfur in Buton oil sand bitumen, identifying different types of sulfur-containing compounds through selective oxidation and extraction methods. The results showed that sulfide sulfur, thiophenic sulfur, and sulfoxide/sulfone sulfur were the main sulfur components in OSB, with different enrichment patterns in saturates, aromatics, resins, and asphaltenes. The research also conducted thermal cracking experiments on OSB, assessing the composition and classes of sulfur-containing compounds in the produced oil sand oil under different conditions. The findings indicated that the composition and distribution of sulfur-containing compounds in the oil sand oil varied with temperature and heat carriers, providing valuable insights into the thermal cracking behavior of SCCs in OSB.
