Transition metal-free NaOH-catalyzed hydration of nitriles to primary amides in NH3•H2O-DMSO mixture

Nan Wang et al.

Summary: An efficient protocol for hydrating aryl(hetero) and alkyl nitriles to primary amides with 0.1 equiv. NaOH in NH3·H2O-DMSO was reported. The method showed good to excellent isolated yields for various substituted nitriles, and gram-scale reactions also yielded desired products in high yields. Excessive hydrolysis to form carboxylic acid was achieved by increasing NaOH amount and prolonging reaction time.

Selective Reduction of Nitroarenes to Arylamines by the Cooperative Action of Methylhydrazine and a Tris(N-heterocyclic thioamidate) Cobalt(III) Complex

Dimitris I. Ioannou et al.

Summary: A new study reports an efficient catalytic protocol using methylhydrazine as a reducing agent and tris(N-heterocyclic thioamidate) Co(III) complex as a catalyst to selectively reduce nitroarenes to arylamines with high yields and chemoselectivity. Preliminary investigations suggest a cooperative action of methylhydrazine and the catalyst through a coordination activation pathway, leading to the formation of a reduced cobalt species responsible for the catalytic transformation.

Plasma Hsp90 levels in patients with systemic sclerosis and relation to lung and skin involvement: a cross-sectional and longitudinal study

Hana Storkanova et al.

Summary: According to the study, plasma levels of Hsp90 are increased in patients with systemic sclerosis compared to healthy controls, and are associated with increased inflammatory activity, worsened lung function, and extent of skin involvement in patients with diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis. In patients with systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease treated with cyclophosphamide, baseline Hsp90 levels can predict changes in DLCO over 12 months of therapy.

Chemoselective Hydrogenation of Nitroarenes Using an Air-Stable Base-Metal Catalyst

Viktoriia Zubar et al.

Summary: A method using a single base-metal catalyst to reduce nitroarenes and azobenzenes under relatively mild conditions has been successfully achieved. This method tolerates a wide range of functional groups and provides high yields of the desired products. Mechanistic studies suggest that the reaction proceeds through bifunctional activation involving metal-ligand cooperative catalysis.
