Trophic status observations for Honghu Lake in China from 2000 to 2021 using Landsat Satellites

Summary: Eutrophication of Honghu Lake has significantly accelerated over the past 20 years, causing harm to aquatic organisms and water pollution. The trophic status of the lake was assessed using the trophic level index (TLI) and it was found that the model with air temperature and water level data had higher accuracy in TLI retrieval compared to the model without these data. The eutrophication level of the lake varied seasonally, with the highest values in summer and autumn and the lowest values in winter and spring.

Effect of substrates on the potential of Phragmites australis to accumulate and translocate selected contaminants from landfill leachate

Summary: The choice of substrate in constructed wetlands plays a crucial role in the accumulation and translocation of contaminants from landfill leachate. This study evaluated the effect of substrate on the potential of Phragmites australis to accumulate and translocate selected contaminants. The results showed that translocation was lowest for Fe and Cu, and highest for K and Ni. Overall, P. australis exhibited low phytoaccumulation ability for heavy metals such as Cu, Cr, and Ni.

The study reveals a continuation of classical biomanipulation practices and an increasing focus on eco-bioengineering research in the last decade. The analysis also highlights the effectiveness and ecological resilience of eco-bioengineering methods in addressing eutrophication and fluctuating environmental flows.
