SlWRKY35 positively regulates carotenoid biosynthesis by activating the MEP pathway in tomato fruit

Yong Yuan et al.

Summary: Carotenoids are important phytonutrients and the study identifies SlWRKY35 as a positive regulator of carotenoid biosynthesis in tomato. SlWRKY35 activates the expression of the SlDXS1 gene to enhance carotenoid accumulation. The master regulator SlRIN is also involved in regulating SlWRKY35 during tomato fruit ripening.

Integrative analyses of transcriptome and carotenoids profiling revealed molecular insight into variations in fruits color of Citrus Reticulata Blanco induced by transplantation

Qichun Huang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of transplantation on the coloring of citrus fruits using RNA-Seq and carotenoid profiling. The results showed that transplantation led to a shallowing of fruit color and changes in hormone and carotenoid levels. RNA sequencing identified differentially expressed genes involved in fruit coloring, providing insights into the molecular mechanisms.

Transcriptome and metabolomics analysis revealed that CmWRKY49 regulating CmPSY1 promotes ?-carotene accumulation in orange fleshed oriental melon

Xiaoyu Duan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanisms underlying the formation and regulation of flesh color in oriental melons. Carotenoid-targeted metabolomic and RNA-seq analysis were conducted between two cultivars with different flesh colors. The results identified b-carotene as the major metabolite causing the color differences and revealed the metabolic pathways and transcription factors associated with carotenoid metabolism. Furthermore, the study demonstrated the regulatory role of the transcription factor CmWRKY49 in flesh color. These findings provide insights into the regulatory network of carotenoid metabolism in oriental melon fruit.

The effects of crop rotation combinations on the soil quality of old apple orchard

Haiyan Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of crop rotation on soil quality and seedling growth in an old apple orchard. It finds that rotating different crops can significantly improve soil quality and promote the growth of apple rootstock. The study also shows that certain crops have inhibitory effects on Fusarium species, and rotating crops can increase bacterial count and reduce fungal populations. In addition, crop rotation can enhance root respiration, enzyme activity, pH, and organic matter content, while decreasing soil bulk density.

Effect of exogenous methyl jasmonate on physiological and carotenoid composition of yellow maize sprouts under NaCl stress

Weiwei He et al.

Summary: The research showed that the use of exogenous MeJA can enhance carotenoid accumulation in maize sprouts under NaCl stress conditions, alleviating the harmful effects caused by NaCl. MeJA can also promote carotenoid accumulation by regulating the expression levels of key genes involved in the carotenoid biosynthetic pathway.

Plant apocarotenoids: from retrograde signaling to interspecific communication

Juan C. Moreno et al.

Summary: Carotenoids are synthesized by all photosynthetic and some non-photosynthetic organisms, and their oxidative breakdown gives rise to essential metabolites called apocarotenoids. These compounds include phytohormones and signaling molecules vital in regulating plant growth and stress response. Apocarotenoids also play roles in various plant processes, such as symbiosis, abiotic stress response, and plant communication. Additionally, there are indications for the presence of unidentified linear cis-carotene-derived apocarotenoids that may modulate developmental processes in plants.

A fruit ripening-associated transcription factor CsMADS5 positively regulates carotenoid biosynthesis in citrus

Suwen Lu et al.

Summary: The study revealed that a MADS gene CsMADS5 in citrus positively regulates carotenoid biosynthesis by directly activating carotenogenic genes, leading to enhanced fruit coloration and carotenoid concentrations. Additionally, CsMADS5 physically interacts with another positive regulator CsMADS6, suggesting a collaborative role in promoting carotenoid accumulation. These findings expand our knowledge of the complex transcriptional regulatory network governing carotenoid biosynthesis during fruit ripening.
