Water-based Cu nanofluid as lubricant for steel hot rolling: Experimental investigation and molecular dynamics simulation

Jiaqi He et al.

Summary: Cu nanofluid showed superior lubrication performance in hot rolling tests, reducing rolling force and improving surface quality by forming a protective tribofilm that inhibited adhesion wear. Molecular dynamics simulation revealed that the dominant rolling motion of Cu nanoparticles contributed to a significant decrease in friction force, while also polishing and repairing surface defects.

Study on the Tribological Behaviour of Nanolubricants during Micro Rolling of Copper Foils

Linan Ma et al.

Summary: The study found that water-based lubricants with 3.0 wt.% TiO2 nanoparticles are optimal in improving lubrication conditions at contact regions and enhancing the surface quality of rolled copper foils. It is crucial to control the TiO2 nanoparticle content to avoid inadequate lubrication or excessive agglomeration that may deteriorate the surface quality.

The influence of water-based nanolubrication on mill load and friction during hot rolling of 304 stainless steel

Hui Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of using a nanolubricant containing TiO2 nanoparticles compared to pure water in hot rolling tests of 304 stainless steel. The results show that the nanolubricant reduces the rolling force, torque, and power compared to pure water, and the calculated coefficient of friction models have high accuracy. The lubrication mechanisms are attributed to the ball bearing and mending effects of TiO2 nanoparticles, as well as the formation of a thin lubricant film under high rolling pressure.

Metallographic structure improvement of hot rolled strip induced by high temperature diffusion of MoS2 nano-lubricant

Yanan Meng et al.

Summary: A multifunctional MoS2 nano-lubricant was proposed to improve the metallographic structures and lubricating properties of hot rolled strips. The MoS2 nano-lubricant decreased the rolling forces and the thickness of oxidized scale, refined the grains in the metallographic structure, and promoted the nucleation of cementite. This research provides theoretical basis for the development of multifunctional nano-lubricant and offers a new approach for surface strengthening of strips.

A Review of Friction Performance of Lubricants with Nano Additives

Muhammad Waqas et al.

Summary: The addition of nanoparticles to lubricants at an optimal concentration can result in a lower coefficient of friction. However, there are limitations associated with the use of nanoparticles in lubricants, which can affect their performance. Various nanoparticles, such as CuO, MoS2, and TiO2, have shown promising results in reducing friction within lubricants.
