A critical review on the treatment of dye-containing wastewater: Ecotoxicological and health concerns of textile dyes and possible remediation approaches for environmental safety

Rania Al-Tohamy et al.

Summary: The synthetic dyes used in the textile industry cause pollution in water bodies, which has negative consequences on the environment and human health. It is important to effectively treat dye-containing wastewater using eco-friendly technologies to reduce contamination of aquatic habitats and natural water resources. This review discusses the effects of textile dyes on water bodies, aquatic flora, and human health, and compares various technologies for removing dyes from textile wastewater.

Probing the performance and mechanisms of Congo red wastewater decolorization with nanoscale zero-valent iron in the continuing flow reactor

Jing Liu et al.

Summary: Research has shown that nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) technology can effectively decolorize textile wastewater, offering an environmentally-friendly and cost-effective solution. The study investigates the performance and mechanisms of CR wastewater treatment using nZVI in a continuous flow nano-iron reactor (NIR).

Performance and mechanism in degradation of typical antibiotics and antibiotic resistance genes by magnetic resin-mediated UV-Fenton process

Jie Zhong et al.

Summary: Incomplete removal of antibiotics and antibiotic resistance genes in wastewater treatment plants has been a common issue. By using magnetic anion exchange resin as UV-Fenton catalyst, antibiotics and ARGs can be effectively degraded with hydroxide as the dominant reactive radical. The MAER-mediated UV-Fenton reaction shows potential for efficient removal of antibiotics and ARGs in wastewater treatment.

A simple ZVI-Fenton pre-oxidation using steel-nails for NOM degradation in water treatment

Naiara O. Dos Santos et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the feasibility of a heterogeneous Fenton Process using commercial low-carbon-steel nails as the source of Zero-Valent Iron for the removal of NOM from natural surface waters, and confirmed the synergistic effect of ZVI nails and H2O2 on the process. Similar removal efficiencies of NOM were observed in water samples with distinct characteristics, reaching up to 61.6% DOC removal and 79.9% UV254 removal with 100% excess of H2O2 dosage and initial pH 3.5.
