Intrinsic Wettability in Pristine Graphene

Jincan Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that pristine graphene exhibits high hydrophilicity with an average water contact angle of approximately 30 degrees, due to charge transfer between graphene and water molecules. This work provides insight into water-graphene interaction and introduces a new approach for measuring surface properties of 2D materials.

RTV-SiR based composites aged in a multi-stressed environment under AC and bipolar DC voltages

Atif Mahmood et al.

Summary: Silicone rubber-based polymers have advantages such as high hydrophobicity for suppressing leakage current and surface flashover, making them gradually replace traditional insulators in outdoor applications. However, these polymers are prone to aging when exposed to environmental stresses, leading to a loss of desired properties. In this study, the aging behavior of different types of room temperature vulcanized silicon rubber loaded with nano-silica and micro-ATH was investigated. The experiments showed that positive DC stress caused more degradation in desired properties compared to AC and negative DC voltages. Additionally, silicone rubber doped with nano-sized silica filler demonstrated better anti-aging performance than its micro-ATH filled counterpart.

Influence of Crosslinking Extent on Free Volumes of Silicone Rubber and Water Diffusion after Corona Discharge

Yue Yang et al.

Summary: In this article, the effect of crosslinker content on the properties of silicone rubber was investigated by studying the free volume holes in the samples. It was found that increasing the crosslinker content reduced the size of free volume holes but did not affect the concentration of holes. Additionally, surface cracks were observed on samples with high crosslinking levels after corona treatment, leading to a decrease in water repellency.

Multifunctional properties of chemically reduced graphene oxide and silicone rubber composite: Facile synthesis and application as soft composites for piezoelectric energy harvesting

Vineet Kumar et al.

Summary: The present work successfully synthesized chemically reduced graphene oxide (CRGO) and prepared composites with different CRGO loadings by mixing CRGO with room-temperature-vulcanized silicone rubber (RTV-SR). The addition of CRGO transformed the normally rigid RTV-SR into a soft composite with improved compressive modulus and electrical conductivity. Furthermore, the RTV-SR/CRGO-based composites exhibited good piezoelectric energy harvesting performance.

Utilization of positron annihilation and electrochemical impedance to study the microstructure variations and water diffusion of NO2-oxidative-damaged silicone rubber

Jinshuai Zhang et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the effects of NO2-induced oxidative damage on the microstructure and water diffusion behavior of high-temperature vulcanized (HTV) silicone rubber. It was found that NO2 oxidation significantly degrades the organic matrices, leading to a decrease in crosslinking degree and the formation of defects. As the NO2 concentration increases, the diffusion coefficient of water in silicone rubber dramatically increases, indicating the formation of more nano- and micron holes in the material.

Prominently enhanced corrosive gas NO2 resistibility for silicone rubber composite coatings by incorporation of functional g-C3N4 nanosheets

Jinshuai Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, functional graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) nanosheets were prepared to enhance the NO2 resistibility of room temperature vulcanized (RTV) silicone rubber. The results show that functional g-C3N4 improves interfacial compatibility and reinforces the RTV matrix, reducing free volume for NO2 diffusion. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate that triazine structures in g-C3N4 can effectively interact with NO2 molecules, achieving a synergy effect between physical barrier and chemisorption.
