Tribological behavior of Ni-based self-lubricating claddings containing sulfide of nickel, copper, or bismuth at temperatures up to 600?C

R. Kumar et al.

Summary: Self-lubricating coatings were fabricated on a stainless steel substrate through laser cladding with metal sulfides. The coatings exhibited a self-lubricating behavior, reducing friction by -60% at room temperature and -40% at 400 degrees C, especially the Bi2S3-added cladding, due to the presence of lubricious phases and leading to 'self-healing' phenomena. The results were compared with the unmodified NiCrBSi alloy.

Hydrogen absorption rate and hydrogen diffusion in a ferritic steel coated with a micro- or nanostructured ZnNi coating

Masoud Moshtaghi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of the microstructure of electrodeposited ZnNi coatings, particularly pores and microcracks, on the characteristics of hydrogen diffusion at room temperature. The results show that the presence of microcracks significantly affects the behavior of hydrogen diffusion, while the high grain boundary density in nanostructured coatings leads to a lower content of diffusible hydrogen.

High deformation ability induced by phase transformation through adjusting Cr content in Co-Fe-Ni-Cr high entropy alloys

Xuefeng Gao et al.

Summary: The study revealed significant changes in phase transformation and mechanical properties of high entropy alloys as the chromium content increases. With the increase of chromium content, the volume fractions of HCP and sigma phases increase, leading to an increase in yield strength, but the increase in sigma phase reduces the ductility of the material.

Summary: Iron-based coatings with solid lubricants prepared by laser cladding can control friction and reduce tool wear during high-temperature metal forming. The addition of lubricious compounds helps to lower friction and wear, while microstructural and phase composition studies have been conducted on the coatings at high temperatures.

Hana Thurlova et al.

Summary: Substituting part of Mn with Al in equiatomic CoCrFeNiMn alloy can enhance the hardness and strength of the alloy, with the most promising mechanical properties observed in the CoCrFeNiMn5Al15 alloy. All prepared alloys showed good thermal stability, with higher Al content leading to better resistance against high-temperature oxidation.

Microstructure and high-temperature wear behavior of CoCrFeNiWx high-entropy alloy coatings fabricated by laser cladding

Hao Liu et al.

Summary: W-doped high-entropy alloy (HEA) coatings fabricated via laser cladding on AISI1045 steel demonstrated improved microhardness and high-temperature performance. The coatings were composed of a face-centered cubic (FCC) solid solution matrix with unmelted W phases and FCC/intermetallics eutectic structures. The microhardness increased with increasing W content. At 600 degrees C, CoCrFeNiW coating exhibited good wear resistance due to the formation of an oxide layer. However, at 800 degrees C, sublimation of WO3 in the oxide film resulted in reduced wear resistance.

Research Article Role of Al and Cr on cyclic oxidation behavior of AlCoCrFeNi2 high entropy alloy

T. Sudeep Kumar et al.

Summary: This work studied the cyclic oxidation behavior of AlCoCrFeNi2-based High Entropy Alloys (HEAs) to understand the effect of Al and Cr. The results showed that Al1.5CoCrFeNi2 alloy with higher Al content exhibited a lower oxidation rate due to the formation of a protective Al2O3 oxide layer. On the other hand, alloys with higher Cr content formed Cr2O3 oxide layer, but it eventually spalled off, leading to further oxidation of the substrate.

Wear and Corrosion Resistance of FeCoCrxNiAl High-Entropy Alloy Coatings Fabricated by Laser Cladding on Q345 Welded Joint

Qiang Ben et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the influence of Cr content on the microstructure and properties of laser-cladded FeCoCrxNiAl HEA coatings on different regions of Q345 welded structure. The results show that adding Cr element improves the energy absorption and diffusion rate of Fe, leading to the formation of a hard brittle phase. The corrosion resistance of the coatings initially increases and then decreases, reaching the highest at x = 1.5.

Hang Zhang et al.

Summary: The newly developed NbMoTaTi0.5Ni0.5 HEA exhibits high room-temperature compressive strength of 2297 MPa and high-temperature compressive strength of 651 MPa. The addition of Ni and Ti suppresses crack formation, enhances formability of NbMoTa HEA, and improves formability by transforming microcracks due to grain boundaries with low stacking fault energy. This study serves as a guideline for developing refractory high-entropy alloys via additive manufacturing like selective laser melting.
