A randomized controlled trial of an enhanced recovery after surgery protocol in patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy

Pavlos Papasavas et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol on laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) patients. The results showed that compared to the standard of care group, the ERAS group had lower opioid use, lower pain scores, shorter time to achieve readiness for discharge, and more patients were discharged on the first post-operative day. There were no differences in 30-day safety outcomes between the two groups.

Transversus Abdominis Plane Block Appears to Be Effective and Safe as a Part of Multimodal Analgesia in Bariatric Surgery: a Meta-analysis and Systematic Review of Randomized Controlled Trials

Maria Foldi et al.

Summary: The use of USG-TAP block in multimodal analgesia for bariatric surgery can effectively reduce postoperative pain, lower opioid consumption, shorten time to ambulate, and have a low rate of non-severe complications. These results support the integration of USG-TAP block into ERAS protocols for bariatric surgery.

Impact of Enhanced Recovery After Bariatric Surgery (ERABS) Protocol in Reducing Length of Stay and Hospitalization Costs: the Experience of a Philanthropic Hospital in Brazil

Marcos Paulo Gouveia de Oliveira et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the impact of implementing a customized Enhanced Recovery After Bariatric Surgery (ERABS) protocol on hospitalization costs, length of stay, and complication rates. The results showed a significant decrease in hospital LOS and total HC after implementing ERABS, without an increase in perioperative morbidity. The ERABS protocol is cost-effective and can help ease the healthcare burden.
