How Does Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology Influence Total Knee Arthroplasty Implant Placement for Surgeons in Fellowship Training?

Laura Y. Scholl et al.

Summary: Implant malalignment can negatively affect postoperative outcomes in total knee arthroplasty. This study found that robotic-arm assisted TKA (RATKA) allowed for more accurate and precise implant positioning compared to manual techniques when performed by in-training orthopaedic surgical fellows. The results showed that fellows with limited RATKA experience were able to achieve similar accuracy and precision as experienced surgeons.

Adverse Events Associated With Robotic-Assisted Joint Arthroplasty: An Analysis of the US Food and Drug Administration MAUDE Database

Nicholas R. Pagani et al.

Summary: The use of robotic assistance in arthroplasty is increasing, but there are still uncertainties about the potential adverse events associated with this technology. Adverse event reports from the US FDA database reveal that unexpected robotic arm movement and retained registration checkpoint are common issues, and serious complications requiring surgical reintervention are rare but possible.
