The relationship between voluntary product (re) formulation commitments and changes in the nutritional quality of products offered by the top packaged food and beverage companies in Canada from 2013 to 2017

Laura Vergeer et al.

Summary: The study found that while some of the top 22 packaged food and beverage companies in Canada showed significant improvements in the healthfulness of their products from 2013 to 2017, there was no direct association between voluntary product (re)formulation actions and commitments and improvements in product healthfulness. This suggests a need for stronger industry initiatives or mandatory government interventions to improve the healthfulness of the food supply.

Latest Trends in Investing for Improved Nutrition and Obesity Prevention

Ella Robinson et al.

Summary: This paper summarises the current trends and new developments regarding institutional investor actions related to nutrition and obesity prevention. Recent findings indicate an increase in investor-related activity aimed at improving population diets and achieving global nutrition goals. There is growing civil society and investor activism focused on leveraging investor influence for better nutrition-related actions by food companies. However, existing sustainability-related reporting standards lack comprehensive nutrition-related metrics. Further integration of nutrition within current reporting frameworks and methodological alignment across food industry accountability initiatives would galvanise increased investor action. Mandatory reporting requirements in some jurisdictions are likely to enhance transparency in the food industry and financial institutions.
