Summary: This study aimed to understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on general practitioners (GPs) in Germany. Interviews with 22 GPs revealed changes in the healthcare system, practice routines, patient care, and personal life. The biggest challenges were communication with authorities and following rapidly changing guidelines. Teamwork and collegial exchange were seen as important sources of support. Findings highlight the need for adequate support services to strengthen primary care in future health crises.

The prevalence and long-term health effects of Long Covid among hospitalised and non-hospitalised populations: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Summary: This study systematically synthesized global evidence on the prevalence of persistent symptoms in a general post COVID-19 population. The findings show that regardless of hospitalization status, at least 45% of COVID-19 survivors experience unresolved symptoms for about 4 months. The current understanding of Long Covid is limited by heterogeneous study design, follow-up durations, and measurement methods, hindering effective treatment and management strategies.

Patients and general practitioners agree that wearing masks during consultations complicates physician--patient relationships: An exploratory, qualitative study

Summary: This qualitative study conducted semi-structured interviews with 13 general practitioners and 11 patients in Brittany, France to investigate the impact and perceptions of wearing masks during consultations. The findings suggest that wearing masks creates communication barriers and distance, but has minimal impact on physician-patient relationships with a solid foundation. Both doctors and patients identified specific populations that require increased attention and proposed adaptation strategies.

Through qualitative interviews, we identified four themes: the role of primary care, preparedness of primary care, challenges faced in primary care centers, and approaches to future pandemics. Despite the unpreparedness and undefined roles in pandemic planning, family physicians played a significant role in pandemic management.

Fear of COVID-19 among patients with prior SARS-CoV-2 infection: A cross-sectional study in Estonian family practices

Summary: This study assessed the fear of COVID-19 among survivors over 6 months after infection and identified factors associated with higher fear. The results showed that more than half of the participants still had fear of COVID-19 after infection. Female gender, age over 61, living in a two-member household, physical inactivity before COVID-19, and severity of COVID-19 symptoms were associated with higher COVID-19 fear.
