Handling Delayed or Missed Dose of Antiseizure Medications A Model-Informed Individual Remedial Dosing

Summary: This study aims to explore optimal individualized remedial dosing regimens for delayed or missed doses of commonly used ASMs. Monte Carlo simulation based on population pharmacokinetic models was used to investigate six remedial strategies. The recommended remedial regimens were highly correlated with delayed time, scheduled dosing interval, and half-life of the ASM. The renal function and concomitant medication may also influence the remedial regimens.

Adherence to Antiseizure vs Other Medications Among US Medicare Beneficiaries With and Without Epilepsy

Summary: This study compares adherence to antiseizure medications (ASMs) and non-ASMs among individuals with epilepsy, and finds that adherence to ASMs is relatively low. The study also suggests that differences in adherence are mainly due to individual factors rather than medication class. Furthermore, it shows that individuals with epilepsy have slightly higher adherence to non-ASMs compared to those without epilepsy.

Antiseizure medication adherence trajectories in Medicare beneficiaries with newly treated epilepsy

Summary: This study identified four trajectories of antiseizure medication adherence in adults with newly treated epilepsy. Risk factors for early nonadherence such as race or geographic region are nonmodifiable, but lacking a neurologist is a modifiable risk factor for early nonadherence. These findings can guide future interventions aimed at improving ASM adherence.
