Predictors for insulin use in gestational diabetes mellitus

Summary: This study aims to identify predictors of insulin therapy in women diagnosed with GDM during pregnancy. Positive predictors include elevated fasting result on an OGTT, previous birth weight greater than 90th percentile, previous diagnosis of GDM, being born in South Asia, the 2-hour OGTT result, BMI, and age. The final predictive model had an area under the ROC curve of 0.744, informing counseling for newly diagnosed women with gestational diabetes.
