One-step synthesis of metallic Bi deposited Bi2WO6 nanoclusters for enhanced photocatalytic performance: An experimental and DFT study

Jiayou Liu et al.

Summary: Non-noble metallic Bi/Bi2WO6 nanocomposites were synthesized using a one-step semi-solvothermal method, where materials prepared in a 50% DMF precursor solution showed the most effective degradation of RhB under simulated sunlight. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of the material was mainly attributed to the surface plasmonic resonance effect of metallic Bi and the formation of an Ohmic junction between Bi microspheres and Bi2WO6 nanosheets.

Construction and enhanced efficiency of Z-scheme-based ZnCdS/Bi2WO6 composites for visible-light-driven photocatalytic dye degradation

Xiaohan Zhao et al.

Summary: Novel ZnCdS/Bi2WO6 composites exhibit highly efficient photodegradation of malachite green under visible light and excellent stability, mainly due to their Z-scheme heterostructure. Free radical capture experiments confirm the crucial roles of hydroxyl radicals and superoxide ion radicals in the reaction process. A proposed photocatalytic mechanism provides insight into the enhanced photocatalytic activity of the composites.

Recent advances on Bi2WO6-based photocatalysts for environmental and energy applications

Tong Chen et al.

Summary: Bismuth tungstate (Bi2WO6) has attracted research attention for its potential in photocatalytic energy conversion and environmental purification, but its limited light absorption and fast recombination of photogenerated carriers hinder further improvement of its photocatalytic performance. Recent advances in Bi2WO6-based photocatalysts focus on crystal structure, optical properties, and photocatalytic fundamentals, as well as modification strategies for diverse applications like organic synthesis, water splitting, etc. Challenges and future prospects in this field are also discussed for the development of efficient Bi2WO6 photocatalysts.
