Influence of IrO2/TiO2 coated titanium porous transport layer on the performance of PEM water electrolysis

Tuan Linh Doan et al.

Summary: In this study, a thin layer of IrO2/TiO2 catalyst is deposited on the surface of the polymer electrolyte membrane water electrolyzer's transport layer to prevent passivation and improve performance. The experiment results show that increasing the catalyst loading can reduce cell Ohmic resistance and enhance performance.

Durability Testing of Low-Iridium PEM Water Electrolysis Membrane Electrode Assemblies

Maximilian Moeckl et al.

Summary: The durability of a novel iridium catalyst with a low iridium loading density was investigated in a PEM water electrolysis short stack. The performance of the novel catalyst was compared to a conventional iridium catalyst. The results showed that the novel catalyst had lower degradation in performance at low current densities, making it suitable for industrial applications.

Boosting the oxygen evolution stability and activity of a heterogeneous IrRu bimetallic coating on a WO3 nano-array electrode for PEM water electrolysis

Guang Jiang et al.

Summary: Designing a high-performance and stable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrode is crucial for cost reduction. In this study, a WO3 nano-array electrode with a heterogeneous IrRu coating was fabricated using a simple electrodeposition method to achieve a balance between OER activity and stability. The IrRu@WO3 electrode exhibited a competitive overpotential and good stability. Furthermore, the nano-array structure provided excellent OER performance and stability due to the electrophilic electronic structure of interfacial Ru. The tunable stability and activity of the nano-array electrode make it a promising candidate for PEM water electrolysis.

How oxidation state and lattice distortion influence the oxygen evolution activity in acid of iridium double perovskites

Maria Retuerto et al.

Summary: The study found that the activity of double perovskite catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) can be enhanced by tuning the structure through the choice of different metal ions M. While the higher oxidation state of iridium, Ir6+, can improve OER activity, perovskite catalysts containing Ir6+ are less stable due to their asymmetric structures, leading to surface reconstruction and cation leaching.
