High-Entropy Sulfides as Electrode Materials for Li-Ion Batteries

Ling Lin et al.

Summary: Two new types of single-phase high-entropy sulfides (HESs) with homogeneously mixed solid solution structures were successfully synthesized by a facile method. The desired metal to sulfur ratio for different stoichiometries of HESs can be easily tuned using metal sulfides, pure metals, and sulfur as precursors. The HESs show high specific capacities and excellent rate capabilities as electrode materials for reversible electrochemical energy storage in secondary Li-ion batteries.

Nanosized high entropy spinel oxide (FeCoNiCrMn)3O4 as a highly active and ultra-stable electrocatalyst for the oxygen evolution reaction

Chanqin Duan et al.

Summary: In this study, high-entropy oxide nanoparticles with a multi-component single-phase structure were synthesized and found to exhibit excellent catalytic performance, including low overpotential, fast dynamics, and superb long-term stability, for the oxygen evolution reaction. The excellent performance can be attributed to the large number of active sites provided by ultra-small nanoparticles, the synergistic effect of different catalytically active metal elements, and the entropy stabilization effect.

High-Entropy Spinel Oxides Produced via Sol-Gel and Electrospinning and Their Evaluation as Anodes in Li-Ion Batteries

Beatrix Petrovicova et al.

Summary: This study investigates the production of pure single-phase high-entropy oxides (HEOs) with spinel structure under milder conditions, reducing the environmental impact. Different synthesis methods and conditions were evaluated to determine their influence on the microstructure, morphology, and crystalline phase purity of the HEOs. The study also explored the application of these HEOs as active anode materials in lithium-ion batteries and proposed strategies for enhancing their performance.

Entropy Engineering and Tunable Magnetic Order in the Spinel High-Entropy Oxide

Graham H. J. Johnstone et al.

Summary: This study characterizes the magnetic properties of spinel oxides and explores the impact of gallium substitution on its magnetism. It is found that the ferrimagnetic order in spinel high-entropy oxides is robust but highly tunable. The tunability is correlated with site selectivity between cations and different sites in the spinel structure. Gallium substitution also leads to an overall reduction in transition metal valence, and the effect is primarily accommodated by manganese.

Increasing oxygen vacancies in CeO2 nanocrystals by Ni doping and reduced graphene oxide decoration towards electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Yang Xu et al.

Summary: This study reports a facile modification strategy using rGO as a conductive support for CeO2 nanocrystals and introducing the transition metal Ni as the active dopant, resulting in the construction of the Ni-rGO/CeO2 electrocatalyst. The Ni-rGO/CeO2 electrocatalyst shows relatively low overpotential, a low Tafel slope, and great stability for HER, which is attributed to the synergistic effect of rGO decoration and Ni doping.
