Investigation of alkali metals addition on the catalytic activity of CuFe2O4 for soot oxidation

Summary: Soot particles from diesel engines pose significant health and environmental issues. In this study, CuFe2O4 catalysts doped with alkali metals were synthesized to enhance their catalytic activity in eliminating soot residue. The results showed that the doping of alkali metals facilitated the formation of oxygen vacancies, which served as the main active sites for soot oxidation. Among all the catalysts, Cu0.9K0.1Fe2O4 demonstrated the highest catalytic activity with a T-ig of 308℃ and T-max of 389℃.

Structured glass catalysts for diesel particulate filters

Summary: Efforts to create a structured glass catalyst coating for use in diesel particulate filters are described. Various methods were investigated to increase the active surface area of a K-Ca-Si-O glass catalyst coating. The addition of polypropylene glycol was successful in creating a microporous coating that resulted in higher catalyzed surface area and more intensive soot-catalyst interaction.

High performance of K-supported Pr2Sn2O7 pyrochlore catalysts for soot oxidation

Summary: A highly active catalyst of K-supported Pr(2)Sn(2)O(7) pyrochlore nanosphere was synthesized and showed excellent catalytic performance and high stability in soot combustion. The potassium species on the catalyst surface exist in three forms and contribute to improved catalyst-soot contact, increased surface basicity, enhanced reducibility, and potential participation in soot oxidation. The results suggest that this catalyst has the potential for application in diesel exhaust control processes.

Impact of sulfur functional groups on physicochemical properties and oxidation reactivity of diesel soot particles

Summary: This study investigates the physicochemical characteristics of soot particles generated from different fuels with high sulfur content on a marine auxiliary diesel engine. The results show that high sulfur content increases the concentrations of sulfur functional groups, sulfur element content, and primary particle size of soot particles. It is also observed that there are linear correlations between the concentrations of sulfur functional groups and the soot fringe length, as well as the oxidation activation energy. Additionally, metal-sulfates formed from the combination of sulfur with metal elements in fuel or lube oils enhance the oxidation of soot.

The reaction mechanism of the catalyst was proposed based on characterization results and DFT calculation, contributing to the understanding of the catalyst's high catalytic activity.
