Revised Mechanism of C(sp3)-C(sp3) Reductive Elimination from Ni(II) with the Assistance of a Z-Type Metalloligand

Tao Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, computational evidence is presented to support the role of Zn coordination in accelerating reductive elimination from Ni(II) centers in Ni-catalyzed cross-couplings. The Zn-assisted pathway was found to have lower energy compared with direct reductive elimination from a Sigma-coordinated Ni(II) intermediate. Theoretical calculations reveal a significant Z-type Ni-Zn interaction that enhances reductive elimination.

Is the metal involved or not? A computational study of Cu(I)-catalyzed [4+1] annulation of vinyl indole and carbene precursor

Xiaoqian He et al.

Summary: In this study, the mechanism and regioselectivity of the Cu(I)-catalyzed [4 + 1] annulation of vinyl indoles and a carbene precursor were investigated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results showed that direct 1,5-annulation was favored over the Cu-assisted annulation pathway, and the regioselectivity for 1,5-annulation was attributed to the greater stability of the generated five-membered-ring product compared to the three-membered-ring product from 1,3-annulation, which was kinetically favored.

Structure, reactivity and catalytic properties of manganese-hydride amidate complexes

Yujie Wang et al.

Summary: Research shows that a higher efficiency can be achieved by substituting an N-M' group (M' = alkali metals) for the N-H moiety using a large excess of metal alkoxides (M'OR), but the metal-hydride amidate intermediate has not yet been isolated. Furthermore, it is found that M/NM' bifunctional catalysis is superior to classic M/NH bifunctional catalysis in hydrogenation reactions.

Extendedtight-bindingquantum chemistry methods

Christoph Bannwarth et al.

Summary: This review discusses a family of atomistic, mostly quantum chemistry based semiempirical methods for describing large molecules in gas and condensed phase. These methods are derived from a density functional perturbation expansion and emphasize parameter availability for almost the entire periodic table, with improvements in atomic orbital basis set and interaction treatments. The methods are consistent with accurate gas phase theoretical reference data and have been extended for electronic spectra and response properties.

Bifunctional Hydrogen Bond Donor-Catalyzed Diels-Alder Reactions: Origin of Stereoselectivity and Rate Enhancement

Pascal Vermeeren et al.

Summary: Through a combination of density functional theory and coupled-cluster theory, the study investigated the selectivity and rate enhancement of bifunctional hydrogen bond donor-catalyzed Diels-Alder reactions. It was found that (thio)ureas render the reactions exo selective and accelerate the process by lowering the reaction barrier by up to 7 kcal mol(-1).

From Intermolecular Interaction Energies and Observable Shifts to Component Contributions and Back Again: A Tale of Variational Energy Decomposition Analysis

Yuezhi Mao et al.

Summary: Density functional theory (DFT) calculations are powerful for predicting intermolecular interaction energies, but lack chemical insight beyond observable predictions; Energy decomposition analysis (EDA) quantitatively bridges this gap by providing values for the chemical drivers of interactions; The second-generation version of absolutely localized molecular orbital EDA (ALMO-EDA-II) characterizes the effects of different physical contributions on changes in observables.

Advances in heterometallic ring-opening (co)polymerisation catalysis

Weronika Gruszka et al.

Summary: Improving catalyst performance for ring-opening (co)polymerisation (RO(CO)P) reactions by using heterometallic cooperativity is a promising yet underexplored strategy. Here the authors review advances in heterometallic RO(CO)P catalyst design, highlighting the overarching structure-activity trends and reactivity patterns to inform future catalyst design.
