Boosting molecular diffusion following the generalized Murray's Law by constructing hierarchical zeolites for maximized catalytic activity

Ming-Hui Sun et al.

Summary: By constructing hierarchical Murray zeolites with a highly ordered and fully interconnected macro-meso-microporous structure, molecular diffusion can be boosted, leading to enhanced catalytic performance. The hierarchical Murray zeolite demonstrated higher diffusion rates and catalytic performance in the cracking reaction of 1,3,5-triisopropylbenzene compared to microporous ZSM-5 and ZSM-5 nanocrystals. The concept of hierarchical Murray zeolites and their design principles could be applied to maximize performance in other catalytic reactions.

Heterogeneous parahydrogen induced polarization on Rh-containing silicalite-1 zeolites: effect of the catalyst structure on signal enhancement

Weiyu Wang et al.

Summary: The investigation on rhodium-containing silicalite-1 zeolites using the HET-PHIP NMR technique reveals that the supported rhodium species and zeolite structure play crucial roles in molecule polarization and signal enhancement. Intensive polarized signals are observed on self-pillared silicalite-1 nanosheets supported rhodium catalyst, while silicalite-1 nanocrystals supporting large rhodium nanoparticles show lower activity for the generation of polarization. Single-atom rhodium encaged in silicalite-1 nanocrystals exhibits high hydrogenation activity but low observed polarization generation efficiency, indicating the critical role of the interactions between polarized molecules and micropore structures in attenuating the polarization.

Summary: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) are essential analytical and diagnostic tools with a wide range of applications. However, the low sensitivity of magnetic resonance poses a major challenge in various fields. Parahydrogen induced polarization (PHIP) is a cost-effective method to enhance signal by utilizing chemical reactions. This article provides an overview of PHIP techniques and reviews current literature on method developments and applications.

Anchored complexes of rhodium and iridium for the hydrogenation of alkynes and olefins with parahydrogen

Ivan Skovpin et al.

Summary: In this study, catalysts synthesized by covalently binding Rh and Ir complexes to NH2- and PPh2- functional groups on functionalized silica gel surface were compared in gas-phase hydrogenation of propyne and propene. The stability, activity, and product selectivity of the catalysts were evaluated. The use of parahydrogen in the reaction provided mechanistic information by enhancing the NMR signals of the reaction products. Ir-based catalysts showed higher stability and PPh2- ligand showed greater activity in the hydrogenation reaction. Remarkably, the catalyst with Ir metal complex bound via the phosphine moiety demonstrated high stability, activity, and selectivity in the gas-phase hydrogenation of propyne, producing strongly hyperpolarized propene.
