Revisited Mechanisms for Glucose Electrooxidation at Platinum and Gold Nanoparticles

Neha Neha et al.

Summary: In this study, the electrooxidation of glucose on gold and platinum nanoparticles in alkaline medium was investigated. It was found that glucose can adsorb on both surfaces at low potentials, but the adsorbed species were different. On platinum nanoparticles, glucose adsorption and hydrogen atoms oxidation into protons occurred in the first oxidation peak, while the oxidation of glucose into lactone and gluconate and of adsorbed carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide happened in the second electrochemical feature. For gold nanoparticles, adsorbed hydrogen atoms were transformed into molecular hydrogen, and glucose was adsorbed as gluconate species.

On the electrooxidation of glucose on gold: Towards an electrochemical glucaric acid production as value-added chemical

Nicolas Schlegel et al.

Summary: The electrocatalytic oxidation of glucose is a promising process for renewable resource production. This study used a rotating disk electrode and Koutecky-Levich analysis to investigate the reaction kinetics and competition between glucose and catalyst surface. The results indicate that the glucose oxidation reaction is mainly mass-transport controlled, and increasing glucose concentrations result in delayed oxidation of the gold catalyst surface.

Remarkably Efficient Carbon-Supported Nanostructured Platinum-Bismuth Catalysts for the Selective Electrooxidation of Glucose and Methyl-Glucoside

N. Neha et al.

Summary: Pt/C and Pt9Bi1/C catalysts were synthesized using wet chemistry, characterized by physicochemical and electrochemical methods, and evaluated for glucose and methyl-glucoside electrooxidation in alkaline medium. Pt9Bi1/C showed lower onset potentials for glucose and methyl-glucoside oxidation compared to Pt/C, forming gluconate and methyl-glucuronate as main reaction products. The results demonstrated high faradaic efficiency and selectivity for the formation of gluconate and methyl-glucuronate during the electrooxidation process.

A Divergent Paired Electrochemical Process for the Conversion of Furfural Using a Divided-Cell Flow Microreactor

Yiran Cao et al.

Summary: Furfural is a non-petroleum-based chemical feedstock material derived from hemicellulose. Electrochemical activation provides a sustainable and green alternative for furfural conversion, enabling simultaneous production of multiple biobased chemicals. Using water as solvent and NaBr as supporting electrolyte, a green and sustainable process was developed to maximize electricity use and minimize byproduct formation.
