Engineering a Copper Single-Atom Electron Bridge to Achieve Efficient Photocatalytic CO2 Conversion

Gang Wang et al.

Summary: We designed a Z-Scheme photocatalyst with N-Cu-1-S single-atom electron bridge (Cu-SAEB) to mediate the CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR). The CO and O-2 production over Cu-SAEB reached as high as 236.0 and 120.1 mu mol g(-1) h(-1) in the absence of sacrificial agents, respectively, surpassing most previously reported photocatalysts. The highly stable Cu-SAEB throughout 30 reaction cycles, totaling 300 hours, was attributed to the strengthened contact interface and the N-Cu-1-S atomic structure.

Ultrahigh Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction Efficiency and Selectivity Manipulation by Single-Tungsten-Atom Oxide at the Atomic Step of TiO2

Yibo Feng et al.

Summary: The photocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction is a sustainable route to convert greenhouse gases into chemicals. Inorganic photocatalysts, like titanium dioxide (TiO2), have been extensively studied due to their stability and low cost. However, a more efficient TiO2 photocatalyst without noble metals is desired for CO2 reduction. In this study, a novel strategy of anchoring a single tungsten (W) atom site with oxygen-coordination at the intrinsic steps of TiO2 nanoparticles is developed. This strategy allows for the control of active sites composition, resulting in significantly improved CO2 reduction efficiency and methane selectivity.

Implanting CoOx Clusters on Ordered Macroporous ZnO Nanoreactors for Efficient CO2 Photoreduction

Yan Wang et al.

Summary: Despite slow charge-carrier mobility, photocatalysis is still a promising technology for producing green fuels. Designing advanced architectural materials as photocatalysts can enhance the performance of semiconductor-based photocatalytic systems. In this study, hierarchical porous nitrogen and carbon co-doped ZnO structures derived from metal-organic frameworks are developed as nanoreactors with CoOx nanoclusters for CO2-to-CO conversion under visible light. The introduction of hierarchical nanoarchitectures with ordered meso-macroporous channels improves the photocatalytic reduction reactions by enhancing charge carrier mobility, maximizing exposure of active sites, and inhibiting charge carrier recombination. The CoOx nanoclusters in the composite exhibit a high affinity to CO2 molecules and form strong Co-O bonds on the surface, resulting in enhanced photocatalysis performance in terms of high CO yield and long-term stability.

A2V2O7 (A = Co, Ni, Cu and Zn) for CO2 reduction under visible-light irradiation: Effects of A site replacement

Mengyang Du et al.

Summary: In this study, the electronic structure and surface basicity of pyrovanadate materials were regulated by changing the A-site element. The results showed that Ni2V2O7 had the strongest crystal field and the largest splitting of V 3d orbitals, resulting in the highest mobility of photogenerated electrons. Furthermore, the CO2-TPD results revealed that Ni2+ had the strongest surface basicity. Compared to other pyrovanadates, Ni(2)V(2)O(7) exhibited the highest CO yield. Cu2V2O7 was not suitable for CO2 reduction due to its positive conduction band position caused by the splitting of the Cu 3d orbital.

Libo Wang et al.

Summary: Efficient hierarchical photocatalysts, such as the S-scheme core-shell TiO2@ZnIn2S4 heterojunction, have gained attention for photocatalytic CO2 reduction. The improved performance is attributed to the inhibited recombination of photogenerated charge carriers induced by the S-scheme heterojunction, as well as the large specific surface areas and abundant active sites. In situ irradiated X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, work function calculation, and electron paramagnetic resonance measurements confirm the S-scheme photogenerated charge transfer mechanism.
