Papers and patents are becoming less disruptive over time

Michael Park et al.

Summary: Theories of scientific and technological change suggest that previous knowledge enables future progress. However, recent studies show that progress is slowing in several major fields. This study analyzes data from six large-scale datasets and finds that papers and patents are becoming less likely to push science and technology in new directions.

Integrated wafer-scale ultra-flat graphene by gradient surface energy modulation

Xin Gao et al.

Summary: The study presents a generic method for reliable adhesion and release of graphene onto semiconductor wafers by gradient surface energy modulation. The transferred graphene exhibits a damage-free, clean and ultra-flat surface with low doping, resulting in uniform sheet resistance. The graphene on SiO2/Si shows high carrier mobility and quantum Hall effect, while encapsulation by h-BN leads to the appearance of fractional quantum Hall effect with ultra-high mobility. Additionally, the integrated wafer-scale graphene thermal emitters exhibit significant broadband emission in the near-infrared spectrum.
