Post-COVID-19 Cholangiopathy: A Novel Entity

Nitzan C. Roth et al.

Summary: This study discusses three cases of patients recovering from critical cardiopulmonary COVID-19 who developed prolonged and severe cholestasis, with histologic features similar to secondary sclerosing cholangitis but also unique characteristics indicating direct hepatic injury from COVID-19. These cases suggest a novel severe post-COVID-19 cholangiopathy with potential for long-term hepatic morbidity.

Bile formation and secretion: An update

James Lorenzen Boyer et al.

Summary: Bile formation is a crucial physiological process for the survival of vertebrates, with its mechanisms gradually understood after World War II. From classic physiologic studies in animal models and humans to research in isolated cells and membrane vesicles, the identification of specific transport systems has been key to understanding this secretion. Progress in this field was reviewed in 2013, and this update provides further insights into advancements made since then.

Madhav Mantri et al.

Summary: By utilizing single-cell and spatial transcriptomics in chicken hearts, the authors conducted a census of cellular interactions from early to late four-chambered heart stage, identifying a distinct epicardial-mesenchymal cell population with a migratory phenotype.
